What does the name Doris Day mean to you? Over the years,
it seems to have become synonymous with sunny Hollywood
schlock, chaste conformity, pop songs sweet enough to
trigger a diabetic coma—in short, everything that
rock ‘n’ rollers hated about 1950s America.
Though this is understandable, it’s also unfair.
Many of Day’s records hold up terrifically today,
due in part to one of her crucial traits: sexiness.
You heard me right. Forget the stereotypes; as this
CD proves, there’s a lot more to Doris Day’s
oeuvre than ‘Que Sera Sera’ and co-starring
with Rock Hudson.
